Specialists from Glass Technology Services Limited (GTS) have been
invited by WRAP onto their panel of experts as part of their "Project
Monitors" project. This four year project will see GTS assist with the
day-to-day administration and project management of glass-based
WRAP-funded projects.
As the UK's centre of excellence in glass, GTS is active both in
research and development and technical troubleshooting. All types of
glass and glass production are covered from fibre to flat, from
container to scientific, and includes all stages in the supply chain,
from production to product evaluation, testing to recycling.
WRAP's work in developing innovative higher value markets for recycled
glass has produced a range of imaginative solutions, many of which have
now begun large scale trials. This complex and diverse project mix
requires intensive and specialist project management support.
GTS will provide a range of support functions on WRAP's behalf from
initial contact, monitoring and measurement of project performance
against objectives, including budget management. GTS will review, assess
and validate work against defined milestones and provide regular reports
to WRAP. It will also be responsible for proposing corrective action
plans if any project begins to experience any difficulty attaining
agreed targets.
Says Dave Dalton, General Manager of GTS: "As the collection volumes of
recycled glass grows, so does the need to find alternative uses for this
valuable material. The projects supported by WRAP have thus far
demonstrated the versatility of glass and the potential for new
applications.
"The appointment of GTS to the panel of experts tasked with managing and
monitoring new projects is we believe recognition of GTS's pivotal
position between our industrial members and the wider technical and
academic communities. Advances in the field of recycling are moving
apace and GTS staff relish the prospect of being at the forefront of
these developments during this four-year contract."
GTS will be responsible for ensuring all project work is undertaken in
accordance in accordance with currently recognised best practice. At the
end of each project, GTS will evaluate the contract management service
carried out between all parties and if necessary will make
recommendations for the future.
